Job Description

Our client, a well-established educational organization in the Brookline area, is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join their finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career accounting professional looking to grow within a collaborative, mission-driven environment offering strong work/life balance and excellent benefits. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role will support tuition billing and receivables, reconciliations, financial reporting, and day-to-day accounting operations. The ideal candidate is personable, proactive, and comfortable communicating with families, faculty, and staff both over the phone and via email.

Job Responsibility

  • Manage accounts receivable, tuition billing, collections, and payment tracking
  • Perform reconciliations across revenue and receivable accounts
  • Assist with monthly financial close and preparation of financial reports
  • Support reconciliations for donations, grants, pledges, and other revenue activity
  • Reconcile bank, investment, and related accounts
  • Work closely with families and internal stakeholders to resolve billing questions and payment issues
  • Assist with financial aid tracking, reporting, and related administrative processes
  • Participate in ad hoc accounting and finance projects as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 1–2+ years of accounting or finance experience
  • Prior experience in a school, nonprofit, or mission-driven organization is a plus
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Proficiency in Excel and accounting systems required
  • Experience with QuickBooks or Veracross is a plus
