Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Staff Accountant to support housing-related financial operations in La Conner, Washington. This Long-term Contract position will focus on reviewing tenant accounting records, validating rent activity, and improving the accuracy of property-related financial data across a diverse housing portfolio. The ideal candidate brings strong reconciliation skills, sound accounting judgment, and the ability to work through detailed ledger issues in a hands-on environment.

Job Responsibility

  • Review tenant account records to confirm monthly charges, payments, and outstanding balances are recorded accurately
  • Reconcile rental ledgers against cash receipt activity and resolve discrepancies affecting housing accounts
  • Examine automatic payment transactions to ensure funds are applied correctly within the accounting system
  • Correct historical posting errors and perform ledger cleanup for both standard rental and rent-to-own properties
  • Monitor rent collections across occupied housing units and verify that receipts are properly reflected in tenant accounts
  • Partner with accounting and housing team members to strengthen the accuracy and organization of financial records
  • Support financial record maintenance within housing and tribal software platforms, including Kanso and related systems
  • Contribute to future accounting data conversion efforts from QuickBooks Desktop into the tribe's software environment when needed.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of accounting experience, including hands-on work with ledger reconciliation
  • Strong understanding of tenant ledgers, rent postings, cash receipts, and account balancing
  • Experience supporting property management, housing, or rental accounting operations
  • Ability to identify and correct discrepancies in detailed financial records with a high level of accuracy
  • Proficiency working with accounting or housing management systems
  • experience with Kanso is helpful
  • Grant accounting exposure is preferred
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage detailed work in a collaborative onsite setting.
