Robert Half is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented staff accountant to join our team on a contract basis, supporting one of our undisclosed nonprofit clients. This role is ideal for an accounting professional with a passion for mission-driven organizations and experience handling nonprofit financial operations. Job Responsibility:
Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards (FASB 116 & 117)
Assist in month-end and year-end closing, including journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, and financial reporting
Prepare and analyze grant-related financial reports, ensuring compliance with donor and funding requirements
Assist with tracking and reporting restricted and unrestricted funds
Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and fund accounts to ensure proper cash flow management
Support accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR), ensuring timely processing of vendor payments and donor contributions
Assist in the preparation of Form 990 tax filings and audits by gathering necessary financial documentation
Work closely with program managers and leadership to develop and monitor budgets and forecasts
Identify process improvements to enhance financial efficiency and internal controls
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
Minimum 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably within a nonprofit organization
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, formulas)
Experience with nonprofit accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Nonprofit, Blackbaud, Sage Intacct, or MIP Fund Accounting)
Strong understanding of nonprofit fund accounting and grant management
Familiarity with financial statement preparation and restricted funds tracking
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams and leadership
