Job Description:

Robert Half is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented staff accountant to join our team on a contract basis, supporting one of our undisclosed nonprofit clients. This role is ideal for an accounting professional with a passion for mission-driven organizations and experience handling nonprofit financial operations. Job Responsibility:

  • Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards (FASB 116 & 117)
  • Assist in month-end and year-end closing, including journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, and financial reporting
  • Prepare and analyze grant-related financial reports, ensuring compliance with donor and funding requirements
  • Assist with tracking and reporting restricted and unrestricted funds
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and fund accounts to ensure proper cash flow management
  • Support accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR), ensuring timely processing of vendor payments and donor contributions
  • Assist in the preparation of Form 990 tax filings and audits by gathering necessary financial documentation
  • Work closely with program managers and leadership to develop and monitor budgets and forecasts
  • Identify process improvements to enhance financial efficiency and internal controls

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • Minimum 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably within a nonprofit organization
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, formulas)
  • Experience with nonprofit accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Nonprofit, Blackbaud, Sage Intacct, or MIP Fund Accounting)
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit fund accounting and grant management
  • Familiarity with financial statement preparation and restricted funds tracking
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams and leadership
