We are looking for a dedicated Staff Accountant to join our team in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In this role, you will focus on property management accounting, handling full-cycle accounting responsibilities for assigned properties and lease tenants. You will play a key role in preparing financial statements, supporting audits, and contributing to special projects within our dynamic organization.
Job Responsibility:
Manage and maintain the general ledger for assigned properties, including preparing journal entries, recording expense accruals, and overseeing depreciation and amortization
Process accounts payable and receivable transactions, ensuring proper approvals and timely collection of rents and other income
Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports
Perform monthly bank reconciliations for operating and reserve accounts, while monitoring cash flow for assigned properties
Interpret and apply lease agreements to ensure accurate billing and revenue recognition, and assist with master lease renewals
Support external audit and tax processes by providing necessary financial documentation and explanations
Assist with special projects such as the annual 1099 process, filing annual reports, and cross-training with other accounting staff
Collaborate with team members to ensure compliance with organizational and accounting standards
Contribute to maintaining the efficiency and effectiveness of accounting operations by identifying and implementing improvements where needed
Requirements:
At least 2 years of experience in property accounting, real estate accounting, or public accounting with real estate clients
Proficiency in Yardi Breeze software and Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, Outlook, and Teams
Strong understanding of general ledger management, journal entries, and financial reporting
Experience with corporate tax, sales tax, and tax returns
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities
Nice to have:
Familiarity with Low-Income Housing Tax Credit accounting practices is a plus
