We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our client in Hayward, California. In this role, you will apply your accounting expertise to manage financial reconciliations, prepare reports, and ensure the accuracy of property-related financial data. This is a long-term contract position ideal for someone with strong property management experience and a commitment to maintaining high standards in financial operations.
Job Responsibility:
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reconciliations for assigned properties
Accurately code and track invoices, ensuring they align with contracts and vendors, and compile draw packages for approval
Process payments and manage month-end tasks, including accrued interest, property operation expenses, and journal entries for collected rent
Conduct bank reconciliations and ensure timely payments for mortgages, taxes, reserves, and other fees
Collaborate with developers, general contractors, and internal stakeholders to resolve discrepancies and maintain financial accuracy
Collect lien waivers and releases while ensuring proper documentation and filing of permanent project records
Utilize software tools like Yardi, Excel (including V Lookups and Sum Ifs), and Notion to streamline accounting processes
Prepare year-end adjusting entries and supplemental schedules, assisting auditors with required documentation
Generate reports to assess financial progress and needs of assigned properties, providing actionable insights
Maintain organized and centralized accounting files, ensuring all property financial information is properly documented
Requirements:
Proven experience in accounting, preferably within property management or real estate
Proficiency in accounting software such as Yardi, along with advanced Excel skills (e.g., V Lookups and Sum Ifs)
Solid understanding of general ledger, accounts payable, and journal entry processes
Familiarity with corporate and sales tax, as well as preparing corporate tax returns
Strong analytical skills with the ability to accurately review and reconcile financial data
Excellent organizational skills to manage high volumes of invoices and financial tasks
Effective communication and collaboration abilities when working with developers and internal teams
Reliable transportation to travel to properties and training locations as needed
