Robert Half is looking for a detail-focused Staff Accountant to support a services organization in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This contract Staff Accountant position is ideal for an accounting specialist who can manage core financial activities, maintain precise records, and contribute to timely reporting in a fast-moving environment. The Staff Accountant role will partner with finance leadership to uphold compliance, support closing activities, and strengthen day-to-day accounting operations.
Job Responsibility:
Record and review journal entries, maintain ledger activity, and help ensure the accuracy of financial data across reporting periods
Prepare recurring financial statements and supporting schedules for monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting needs
Perform reconciliations for bank accounts, credit cards, payables, receivables, and other balance sheet accounts to identify and resolve discrepancies
Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including invoice handling, payment activity, and follow-up on open items
Contribute to month-end and year-end close by organizing schedules, reconciling accounts, and completing assigned accounting tasks on deadline
Provide documentation and analysis requested during internal and external audit activities
Support tax-related work, including year-end preparation activities, corporate tax matters, sales tax support, and compliance with applicable requirements
Evaluate existing accounting workflows and recommend practical improvements that increase efficiency and control
Take on additional finance and accounting assignments as directed by the Accounting Manager or Controller
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
1–3 years of accounting or finance experience in a detail-focused business environment
Working knowledge of general ledger activity, journal entries, account reconciliation, and financial reporting
Experience supporting tax functions such as corporate tax return preparation, corporate tax processes, or sales tax compliance
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting platforms, including Sage Intacct or similar systems
Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate variances, correct errors, and maintain high accuracy
Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate across departments
Strong organization, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines
