We are looking for a Staff Accountant for a Contract to permanent opportunity with one of our clients in the Knoxville, TN area. This position is ideal for an accounting specialist who enjoys hands-on general ledger work and can manage a large volume of reconciliations with accuracy and consistency. The role will contribute to core accounting operations by preparing entries, resolving discrepancies, and helping keep monthly financial activity organized and on schedule.
Job Responsibility
Complete detailed reconciliations for a wide range of balance sheet and general ledger accounts, ensuring records remain accurate and fully supported
Review and reconcile payroll-related accounts, including bank activity, tax obligations, employee benefit balances, and workers’ compensation transactions
Prepare and record journal entries connected to reconciliation findings and other routine accounting activity
Assist with month-end close by finishing assigned reconciliations on time and confirming account balances are properly stated
Analyze variances and investigate outstanding items, then take appropriate steps to clear discrepancies efficiently
Maintain organized supporting documentation that strengthens the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger
Work with internal departments to obtain backup, clarify transactions, and confirm appropriate accounting treatment across accounts
Reconcile and monitor additional key areas such as prepaid expenses, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and sales tax activity as needed
Requirements
At least 1 year of accounting experience in a role involving general ledger activity and account reconciliations
Demonstrated ability to prepare accurate journal entries and work through detailed account analysis
Working knowledge of payroll accounting, including payroll taxes and related balance sheet reconciliations
Familiarity with fixed asset accounting, prepaid expenses, accounts payable, and accounts receivable processes
Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple reconciliations in a fast-paced environment
Solid Microsoft Excel skills for analyzing data, organizing support, and completing accounting tasks efficiently
Ability to work independently while maintaining accuracy, organization, and accountability in day-to-day accounting responsibilities
