Job Description

We’re hiring a Staff Accountant for a reputable real estate and property management group with a diverse portfolio (multifamily, mixed-use, light commercial). This role blends GL accounting, property-level reporting, and cash management, and is excellent for candidates who enjoy structure, due dates, and mastering the monthly close.

Job Responsibility

  • Full-cycle property accounting for an assigned portfolio (2–6 properties)
  • Cash management: daily bank activity review, deposits, tenant receipts application
  • CAM reconciliations, tenant bill-backs, and monthly property-level financials
  • Month-end close: JE prep, accruals, BS/PL review, and variance explanations
  • Coordinate with Property Managers for budgets, capital spend, and rent roll accuracy
  • Prepare owner packets, lender compliance reports, and audit support
  • Maintain fixed asset subledger and track capital projects

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in Accounting/Finance
  • 2–4+ years accounting experience (property accounting highly preferred)
  • Experience with Yardi, MRI, or RealPage
  • strong Excel
  • Strong grasp of CAM, GAAP, accruals, and period close
  • Detail orientation, ownership mindset, and strong communication

Nice to have

  • Exposure to entity consolidations, intercompany, and lender reporting
  • Experience with lease abstracts and revenue recognition nuances

  • Reconcile claims payment balances each month and verify supporting records are aligned with accounting data
  • Prepare premium tax filings for state and municipal jurisdictions in accordance with reporting deadlines
  • Track outstanding stale-dated checks, communicate with payees as needed, and complete unclaimed property reporting documentation for applicable states
  • Maintain fixed asset and depreciation schedules, review contribution classifications, and assist with month-end close, financial reporting, data submissions, audits, and other accounting projects as assigned
