We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support core accounting operations for a real estate and property organization in Redwood City, California. This Contract-to-hire position is ideal for a candidate with at least 2-5 years of experience who can manage day-to-day financial activities with accuracy and consistency. The role will contribute to general ledger maintenance, tax-related accounting tasks, and timely financial recordkeeping while partnering with internal stakeholders to keep reporting activities on track.
Job Responsibility:
Prepare and record journal entries to support accurate monthly accounting activity and maintain well-documented financial records
Reconcile general ledger accounts, investigate variances, and resolve discrepancies to ensure reliable financial data
Assist with corporate tax processes, including organizing supporting schedules and contributing to tax return preparation activities
Manage sales tax accounting tasks by reviewing transactions, maintaining records, and helping support timely filings
Support month-end and periodic close activities by reviewing account balances and confirming completeness of posted entries
Work with internal teams to gather financial information, clarify transaction details, and uphold accounting compliance requirements
Maintain organized documentation for audits, tax reviews, and internal reporting needs
Identify process inefficiencies within routine accounting activities and recommend practical improvements to strengthen accuracy and workflow consistency
Requirements:
At least 2-5 years of accounting experience in a staff accountant or similar role
Hands-on experience preparing journal entries and working within the general ledger
Knowledge of corporate tax concepts and exposure to corporate tax return support activities
Experience handling sales tax processes, records, or related compliance tasks
Strong attention to detail with the ability to review financial information for accuracy and completeness
Proficiency with accounting systems and spreadsheet tools used for reconciliations and reporting
Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work effectively in a collaborative business environment
