Job Description

We are looking for a Staff Accountant to support our client in New York, New York on a Contract basis. This role will contribute to core accounting operations while helping deliver accurate financial reporting, regulatory submissions, and audit-ready documentation. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting knowledge and a hands-on approach to improving processes, coordinating with advisors, and meeting critical deadlines.

Job Responsibility

  • Prepare and post journal entries, maintain general ledger activity, and help ensure the accuracy of monthly and periodic close processes
  • Draft technical accounting documentation and research analyses to support accounting conclusions and internal policy application
  • Assist with the preparation of financial statements, footnote disclosures, and supporting schedules for external reporting requirements
  • Partner with internal teams, external auditors, and third-party accounting advisors to address audit requests and keep deliverables on schedule
  • Review accounting policies and recommend updates that align with current guidance, business activity, and reporting obligations
  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting workflows and strengthen controls through process improvements
  • Support regulatory reporting activities by preparing accurate data, validating inputs, and meeting submission timelines

Requirements

  • Experience working in a staff accounting or comparable accounting position, preferably within financial services or FinTech
  • Strong understanding of journal entries, general ledger maintenance, and month-end accounting procedures
  • Hands-on involvement with annual audited financial statements, audit coordination, and responding to audit requests
  • Ability to prepare and manage PBC lists, supporting schedules, and other documentation required for external audits
  • Knowledge of technical accounting research and experience preparing accounting memoranda or policy-related analyses
  • Familiarity with financial statement preparation, disclosure support, and regulatory reporting obligations
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver accurate work within tight deadlines
