We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join our team in New York, New York in a Contract to Permanent capacity. This position is ideal for an accounting specialist who can support core financial operations, maintain accurate records, and contribute to timely reporting across the business. Job Responsibility:
Record journal entries with complete backup documentation and maintain organized supporting records for audit and review purposes
Prepare and reconcile profit and loss statements, balance sheet schedules, and related financial reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual cycle
Contribute to month-end and year-end close activities by verifying transactions, resolving discrepancies, and helping ensure reporting deadlines are met
Support the preparation of annual tax returns and regulatory submissions by gathering required data and coordinating documentation
Produce financial information that is accurate, timely, and clearly structured to assist leadership with analysis and decision-making
Apply established accounting guidance and internal procedures to the recording, classification, and reporting of financial activity
Create and maintain project, budget, contract, and amendment records within accounting systems to support accurate tracking and billing
Examine client and vendor agreements to confirm billing terms, payment timing, and invoicing requirements are interpreted and executed correctly
Review weekly payables for accuracy and approval readiness to help ensure vendors are paid on schedule
Oversee reconciliations for accounts and bank activity, and coordinate with external parties to maintain compliance-related reporting and documentation
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and practical accounting experience
At least 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in industries such as construction, real estate, manufacturing, or similarly complex operating environments
Working knowledge of corporate tax, sales tax, and corporate tax return processes
Hands-on experience preparing journal entries and supporting general ledger activities
Familiarity with NetSuite and other accounting software platforms used for day-to-day financial operations
Understanding of compliance standards, reporting requirements, and financial controls relevant to a regulated business environment
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively
