We are looking for a dedicated Staff Accountant to join our team in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. This position is ideal for someone who is detail oriented, seeking a long-term opportunity to grow and eventually take on a leadership role. The role offers a unique blend of accounting tasks, financial reporting, and personal finance management, requiring a reliable individual with exceptional attention to detail.
Job Responsibility:
Manage accounts payable, including processing invoices, credit card expenses, and reconciling accounts weekly and monthly
Handle accounts receivable and billing processes efficiently to ensure accurate and timely transactions
Perform bank reconciliations, prepare journal entries, and assist with workers' compensation audits
Process payroll for multiple payroll cycles, ensuring compliance and accuracy
Assist with month-end and year-end financial activities, including general ledger updates, accruals, and reporting
Prepare detailed financial reports, including budgets, income statements, and variance analyses, using advanced Excel skills
Support the owner by managing personal finances, handling expenses, and assisting with investment tracking
Learn and provide backup for additional functions currently handled by the Controller, ensuring smooth transitions
Adapt responsibilities based on individual strengths to enhance operational efficiency and reporting capabilities
Collaborate on ad hoc reporting and projections to support financial decision-making
Requirements:
Several years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping, with a strong background in payroll and reporting
Proficiency in advanced Excel for data analysis and reporting purposes
Detail-oriented approach with a high level of reliability and attention to detail
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
Experience in managing both business and personal finances is highly preferred
Familiarity with accounting processes in a small business environment is a plus
Strong organizational skills to manage multiple entities and complex financial structures
Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration and reporting
