Job Description:

We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our non-profit organization in New York, New York. In this long-term contract position, you will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring smooth accounting operations, and supporting the organization's mission. This opportunity is ideal for professionals who excel in numeric data entry and possess strong Microsoft Excel skills.

Job Responsibility:

  • Prepare and post accounting entries from the billing system to maintain accurate financial records
  • Reconcile accounts receivable subledgers to ensure the integrity of financial data
  • Record cash receipts and manage payment processing efficiently
  • Conduct regular reviews of accounting data to identify and resolve discrepancies
  • Collaborate with team members on improving overall financial processes and reporting
  • Support month-end and year-end closing procedures to ensure timely financial reporting
  • Maintain compliance with organizational policies and accounting standards
  • Assist with audits by providing accurate financial documentation and explanations
  • Generate reports and summaries to support decision-making processes
  • Communicate effectively with other departments to address financial inquiries or concerns

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in accounting, preferably in a non-profit organization
  • Proficiency in numeric data entry with exceptional attention to detail
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including formulas and data analysis
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices
  • Ability to reconcile accounts and identify discrepancies effectively
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with team members and other departments
  • Experience with accounting software or systems is preferred
