We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team in Newark, New Jersey. This role supports core accounting operations by ensuring financial records are accurate, organized, and completed on schedule. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to monthly reporting, day-to-day transactional accounting, and process improvements that strengthen overall financial performance.
Job Responsibility
Manage supplier payments and maintain effective communication with vendors to resolve billing matters and support accurate records
Provide coverage for customer billing and collections activities, helping maintain smooth accounts receivable operations when needed
Prepare journal entries, reconcile balance sheet accounts, and keep the general ledger current and accurate
Administer benefit-related accounting tasks, including reviewing insurance applications, validating benefit invoices, arranging payment, and updating payroll deductions and employer contributions
Participate in the month-end close by recording accruals, reviewing the trial balance, completing reconciliations, and assisting with profit and loss statement preparation
Develop financial and operational analyses that highlight margin performance, spending patterns, and other business trends to support decision-making
Strengthen accounting controls by identifying opportunities to improve procedures, consistency, and reporting accuracy
Contribute to special assignments and ad hoc finance projects based on departmental priorities
Requirements
Progressive accounting experience, ideally within logistics, transportation, distribution, warehousing, or manufacturing environments
Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related discipline
Hands-on experience with month-end close activities, account reconciliations, and preparation of financial reports
Strong working knowledge of journal entries, general ledger activity, and core accounting workflows
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting or ERP systems
Solid analytical thinking, organization, and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines
