We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join an insurance organization in New Jersey on a contract basis with long-term potential. This opportunity is well suited for an accounting specialist who enjoys working across core financial processes, supporting accurate reporting, and collaborating with internal teams and external partners. The role follows a hybrid schedule with two days onsite and three days remote, and offers the chance to contribute immediately while building toward long-term potential.
Job Responsibility:
Manage monthly close activities, including preparing journal entries and maintaining the accuracy of the general ledger
Perform detailed reconciliations for balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies to ensure timely resolution
Handle intercompany accounting activity and coordinate settlements between related entities
Review billing-related records and reconcile transactions to support complete and accurate financial data
Help maintain accounting policies and procedural documentation to promote consistency and compliance
Monitor cash flow activity, track financial movements, and provide regular updates to support planning needs
Prepare recurring and ad hoc financial reports, along with analysis that helps stakeholders understand performance and trends
Communicate effectively with colleagues and vendors to resolve accounting questions and obtain needed information
Support financial operations using Excel and accounting systems, with training available on the platform if needed
Requirements:
Experience in staff or entry-level accounting work, including journal entries, general ledger support, and month-end close responsibilities
Strong background in account reconciliation, particularly for balance sheet accounts and billing-related items
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for organizing data, performing analysis, and supporting reporting tasks
Clear communication skills with the ability to work effectively with internal teams and external contacts
High level of accuracy and attention to detail when handling financial records and reconciliations
Motivated, proactive approach with the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines in a hybrid work environment
Nice to have:
Familiarity with PeopleSoft is helpful, though candidates who can learn new systems quickly will also be considered
