We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team in Houston, Texas. This contract-to-permanent position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to financial operations within the hospitality sector, focusing on hotel property accounting and compliance. Job Responsibility:
Prepare accurate monthly financial statements and ensure timely completion of the month-end close process for assigned hotel properties
Maintain organized working paper files and prepare consolidated financial statements when required
Review expense reports and communicate with hotel teams to address invoice coding and reporting inquiries
Post journal entries related to income, accruals, payroll, reclassifications, and intercompany transactions
Perform balance sheet reconciliations and ensure necessary adjustments are recorded
Manage fixed asset schedules, calculate depreciation, and maintain prepaid expense records
Enter invoices and hotel check requests, batch payments, and distribute checks efficiently while maintaining proper documentation
Assist with tax season preparation, including reviewing 1099 data and handling inquiries related to accounts payable
Utilize accounting systems such as Microsoft Dynamics SL, Tabit, Profit Sword, and Concur, while leveraging advanced Excel functionalities
Collaborate with the Controller and Assistant Controller to support departmental tasks and ensure smooth hotel closings
Requirements:
Minimum of 3 years of experience in general ledger accounting, preferably within the hospitality or hotel industry
Proficiency in U.S. accounting principles and practices
Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to use formulas, pivot tables, and create charts and graphs
Familiarity with accounting systems such as Microsoft Dynamics SL, Tabit, Profit Sword, and Concur
Strong analytical abilities and excellent organizational skills
Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Nice to have:
Experience in corporate tax, sales tax, and preparing corporate tax returns is highly desirable
