A mission-driven non-profit / education organization is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support general ledger operations and month-end close. This role plays a key part in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting compliance with grant and fund accounting requirements, and ensuring timely financial reporting.
Job Responsibility
Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, and reclassifications
Perform monthly balance sheet and bank reconciliations
investigate and resolve variances
Support month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring deadlines are met
Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
Assist with fund accounting, including tracking restricted vs. unrestricted funds
Partner with program teams to ensure proper expense coding and grant compliance
Support audit preparation by compiling schedules and responding to auditor requests
Analyze financial data and provide variance explanations to management
Assist with process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy across accounting operations
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
2–5+ years of accounting experience, ideally within nonprofit, education, or government sectors
Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and month-end close processes
Experience with fund accounting or grant reporting highly preferred
Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, lookups) and accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Blackbaud, or similar)
High attention to detail with strong organizational and analytical skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
