We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join a growing organization in New Orleans, Louisiana in a short-term contract to permanent capacity. This role is ideal for an accounting specialist who enjoys working across the close process, financial reporting, and reconciliations while partnering with leadership on accurate and timely reporting. The position offers broad exposure to general ledger activity, fixed assets, compliance support, and special projects in a fast-paced environment.
Job Responsibility
Record and review journal entries across key accounts such as cash, prepaid expenses, payroll, and other general ledger activity
Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycles by preparing reconciliations, close schedules, and related reporting documents
Produce balance sheet and income statement analyses to help management evaluate financial performance and reporting accuracy
Manage fixed asset records, depreciation calculations, and lease or recurring payment schedules to maintain complete accounting support
Reconcile intercompany activity and investigate variances to ensure transactions are properly documented and resolved
Contribute to internal control compliance by helping maintain accounting procedures and supporting audit readiness for periodic reviews
Prepare financial statements, cash flow forecasts, budgets, and other ad hoc reports requested by leadership
Take part in department initiatives and special assignments aimed at improving reporting quality and accounting operations
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field preferred
At least 2 years of accounting experience in a staff accountant or similar role
Strong working knowledge of journal entries, general ledger accounting, and month-end account reconciliations
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and meet critical reporting deadlines
Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and clear written and verbal communication skills
Nice to have
Experience with systems such as NetSuite or BlackLine is a plus
Background in a publicly traded environment is helpful
Exposure to accounts payable, corporate tax, sales tax, grant accounting, or corporate tax return support is advantageous
