We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Staff Accountant to join our team in Concord, California. In this role, you will manage financial processes with a focus on certified payroll, prevailing wage compliance, and accurate accounting practices. Your expertise will contribute to maintaining compliance, supporting month-end close activities, and ensuring the accuracy of payroll and financial records.
Job Responsibility:
Prepare and submit Certified Payroll Reports (CPRs) in accordance with California regulations and prevailing wage laws
Ensure compliance with wage classifications, rates, fringes, and overtime standards
Process weekly payroll for public works and standard payroll, ensuring accurate allocation of labor costs by project
Reconcile payroll data with the accounting system and assist with job costing and financial reporting
Perform monthly account reconciliations, including bank accounts, credit cards, and payroll liabilities
Support month-end close processes by reviewing general ledger entries and resolving discrepancies
Maintain organized records for certified payroll and compliance documentation
Coordinate with project managers on labor classifications and subcontractor compliance
Assist with insurance audits, workers’ compensation tracking, and benefits administration
Respond to labor compliance requests, audits, and agency correspondence
Requirements:
Minimum of 3 years of experience in certified payroll and prevailing wage compliance, specifically in California
Strong knowledge of public works requirements and payroll systems
Premier software experience preferred
Proven expertise in month-end close processes and account reconciliations
High attention to detail and accuracy in managing financial records and compliance documentation
Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple priorities
Ability to work under deadlines and maintain effective communication with team members
Nice to have:
Familiarity with union versus non-union payroll processes is a plus
Experience in construction or subcontractor environments is preferred
