We are looking for a dedicated Staff Accountant to join our team at a nonprofit organization in Spring Valley, California. This role involves managing financial operations, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting the organization's mission through accurate reporting and analysis. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
Job Responsibility:
Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards
Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjustments during month-end and year-end close processes
Process deposits electronically using appropriate tools and scanners
Review and analyze financial transactions for accuracy, proper coding, and adherence to organizational policies
Assist in tracking and maintaining records of restricted and unrestricted funds, grants, and program revenues
Contribute to the preparation of financial statements, reports, and analyses for internal and external stakeholders
Reconcile bank and credit card accounts monthly, resolving discrepancies and ensuring accurate records
Process vendor invoices, verify approvals, and manage timely payments according to organizational guidelines
Support grant compliance by tracking budgets, expenditures, and preparing necessary financial reports
Collaborate with various departments to ensure financial reporting aligns with organizational goals and requirements
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
A minimum of 1 year of experience in accounting, preferably within a nonprofit organization
Proficiency in corporate and sales tax processes
Strong knowledge of journal entries and general ledger management
Experience with financial statement preparation and variance analysis
Familiarity with grant accounting and compliance requirements
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
