Job Description

We are looking for a Staff Accountant to provide essential accounting support for a law firm in New York, New York during a team member's leave of absence. This is a Contract position offering a hands-on opportunity to manage core financial operations in a collaborative, small-office environment with a hybrid schedule. The role will focus on maintaining accurate records, supporting day-to-day accounting activity, and assisting with reporting and financial requests as needed.

Job Responsibility

  • Record and post journal entries while maintaining accuracy across the general ledger
  • Manage daily cash application activities and reconcile incoming receipts to appropriate accounts
  • Process vendor invoices, assign correct coding, and prepare payments in accordance with firm procedures
  • Support billing and accounts receivable functions, including follow-up on outstanding balances when needed
  • Administer payroll-related accounting tasks and help ensure timely and accurate employee reimbursements
  • Assist with month-end close activities, including account reconciliations and preparation of supporting schedules
  • Contribute to tax preparation by organizing financial data and assisting with required filings and documentation
  • Provide support for budgeting, financial reporting, and special accounting requests from partners or clients as assigned
  • Use Aderant Expert Sierra to complete accounting transactions and maintain financial records

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of accounting experience in a staff accountant or similar role
  • Working knowledge of general ledger accounting, journal entries, and month-end close procedures
  • Experience with accounts receivable, daily cash receipts, invoice processing, and billing support
  • Familiarity with payroll processing, employee reimbursements, and tax preparation activities
  • Proficiency with Aderant, preferably Expert Sierra, in a detail-focused services or legal environment
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a small team setting
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to respond to ad hoc financial requests effectively
