We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team in New York, New York. This role requires a motivated individual with strong analytical skills to support critical accounting functions such as inventory management, journal entries, and tax compliance. Job Responsibility:
Assist in the preparation and execution of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting documentation
Conduct inventory accounting tasks, such as tracking inventory movements, reconciling records to the general ledger, and investigating discrepancies
Analyze inventory reserve calculations and prepare cost of goods sold reports to ensure accurate financial reporting
Reconcile and maintain accuracy of key balance sheet accounts, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, prepaid expenses, and accrued liabilities
Support physical inventory counts and cycle count programs to ensure proper valuation and reporting
Collaborate on intercompany transactions and eliminations to maintain accurate consolidated accounts
Manage fixed asset records, including updates and depreciation schedules
Prepare sales and use tax filings and assist with other state and local tax compliance requirements
Provide documentation and respond to inquiries during internal and external audits
Identify and suggest enhancements to accounting processes and internal controls to improve efficiency
Requirements:
Minimum of 2 years of experience in accounting or a related field
Proficiency in preparing journal entries and maintaining general ledger accounts
Strong understanding of month-end closing processes and cost of goods sold calculations
Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting
Experience with inventory accounting and reconciliation processes
Knowledge of accounts payable and accounts receivable workflows
Ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
