We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team on a contract basis in Chester, Virginia. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in corporate tax and accounting processes, who thrives in delivering accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with tax regulations. You will play a key role in maintaining the integrity of financial systems and assisting with the preparation of tax returns.
Job Responsibility:
Prepare and review corporate tax returns, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations
Handle sales tax filings and ensure accuracy in tax reporting
Post journal entries and reconcile accounts to maintain accurate records
Manage the general ledger and ensure all transactions are properly recorded
Support month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate completion
Identify and resolve discrepancies within financial reports and accounts
Collaborate with internal teams to gather necessary financial data for tax preparation
Assist in audits by providing documentation and addressing inquiries
Stay updated on changes in tax laws and accounting standards to ensure compliance
Provide recommendations for improving financial processes and systems
Requirements:
Proven experience in corporate tax preparation and reporting
Strong knowledge of sales tax regulations and filing processes
Proficiency in managing journal entries and reconciling accounts
Expertise in maintaining and analyzing general ledger records
Familiarity with month-end and year-end closing procedures
Ability to work collaboratively with teams and communicate effectively
High attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field preferred
