We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team in Van Nuys, California. This role is integral to managing day-to-day accounting functions for construction projects, ensuring precise job cost tracking, accurate financial reporting, and adherence to industry standards. The ideal candidate will collaborate with project managers and other departments to uphold financial integrity across multiple ongoing projects.
Job Responsibility:
Prepare and post journal entries for payroll, job costs, accruals, and adjustments
Assist with month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely financial reporting
Reconcile general ledger accounts, including bank accounts, credit cards, and retained earnings
Support the preparation of financial statements and analyze variances to identify discrepancies
Monitor and track job costs by project, phase, and cost code for accurate financial oversight
Review and reconcile job cost reports, ensuring data consistency and accuracy
Assist with Work-in-Progress schedules and apply revenue recognition methods such as percentage of completion
Verify subcontractor invoices for proper coding and accuracy, ensuring compliance with company standards
Support customer billing processes, including progress billings, retainage, and collections
Assist with accounts receivable aging reviews and identify opportunities for timely collections
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred
Minimum of 1–3 years of accounting experience, with a strong preference for construction industry expertise
Solid understanding of construction financial processes and job costing methodologies
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and formula creation
Exceptional attention to detail and analytical skills to maintain financial accuracy
Experience with general ledger, journal entries, and financial statement preparation
Strong skills in bank, credit card, and cash reconciliations
Familiarity with accounts payable processes and vendor compliance management
