Job Description:

Robert Half is seeking a contract to hire Staff Accountant with expertise in general ledger (GL) management, sales and use tax, and a passion for driving process improvement using AI-based solutions. This role is ideal for professionals who want to leverage leading-edge technology to maximize accuracy and efficiency in core accounting operations.

Job Responsibility:

  • Perform heavy GL accounting, including reconciliations, journal entries, month-end and year-end close activities, and account analysis
  • Prepare, file, and review sales and use tax returns, ensuring full compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
  • Utilize AI tools and automation (such as data analytics platforms, Python, Power BI, or similar) to identify, recommend, and implement process improvements in accounting workflows
  • Monitor, analyze, and document business processes
  • partner with cross-functional teams to adopt AI-enabled solutions that enhance accuracy and reduce manual efforts
  • Design and maintain data cleansing and visualization procedures using advanced software (e.g., SAP, Oracle NetSuite, Microsoft D365, QuickBooks, SQL)
  • Support internal controls, audits, and financial reporting, ensuring integrity of financial data
  • Provide actionable insights using data analytics and business intelligence tools
  • Remain current on trends in AI and process automation impacting accounting operations

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA designation preferred
  • 2+ years of relevant accounting experience with strong GL focus
  • Demonstrated experience managing multi-state sales and use tax compliance
  • Skilled in accounting technology
  • familiarity with AI/automation tools or programming (e.g., Python, Power BI, SQL) strongly preferred
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking, with an ability to adapt and continuously learn about emerging AI applications
  • Proficient in major accounting software (SAP, Oracle NetSuite, QuickBooks, Microsoft D365, Workday)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • ability to collaborate effectively and drive change
