Job Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support accounting operations for a manufacturing environment in the Chattanooga area. This is a long term contract position focused on maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with payables processing, and helping reduce outstanding transaction backlogs. The ideal candidate brings a solid foundation in general ledger activity, reconciliations, and journal entry preparation while working effectively with plant-related accounting needs.

Job Responsibility

  • Manage day-to-day accounts payable activities for plant-related transactions, ensuring timely and accurate processing
  • Review and complete three-way matching for invoices, purchase orders, and receiving documentation before payment approval
  • Prepare and post journal entries to support routine accounting activity and month-end close requirements
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies to maintain accurate financial reporting
  • Help reduce outstanding accounting backlogs by prioritizing open items and resolving aged transactions efficiently
  • Partner with plant and finance teams to clarify invoice, coding, and payment issues affecting transaction flow
  • Support cross-training efforts within the accounting team to improve coverage and operational continuity

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Accounting or Finance
  • Working knowledge of accounts payable processes, including invoice review and payment support
  • Ability to perform three-way match validation with a high level of accuracy
  • Proficiency in preparing journal entries and maintaining general ledger records
  • Experience completing account reconciliations and resolving variances
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage recurring volume and backlog-driven priorities
  • Willingness to contribute to cross-training and collaborate across accounting functions
