We are looking for an experienced Staff Accountant to join our team in Shelton, Connecticut. This position offers a hands-on opportunity to manage comprehensive accounting operations, including payroll, financial reporting, and benefits administration. This role provides a pathway from contract to permanent employment, where you will play a key part in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting organizational efficiency.
Job Responsibility:
Handle the full cycle of accounting tasks, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger updates, and journal entries
Prepare monthly financial statements such as profit and loss reports, balance sheets, and cash flow analyses
Conduct bank and credit card reconciliations while monitoring cash flow to ensure accuracy
Process payroll bi-weekly and semi-monthly using Paycor, ensuring wages, benefits, and deductions are properly reported
Administer retirement plan contributions and maintain compliance with relevant regulations
Coordinate with leadership and external partners for quarterly reviews, year-end reporting, and tax preparation
Assist with internal and external audits by preparing necessary financial records and addressing auditor inquiries
Track office lease payments and deadlines, providing updates to leadership on important dates and requirements
Oversee property tax filings and payments to ensure timely and accurate submissions
Maintain and recommend improvements to accounting policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and compliance
Requirements:
Minimum of 4 years of experience in full-charge bookkeeping or a similar accounting role
Advanced knowledge of QuickBooks and familiarity with Sage or equivalent systems
Demonstrated experience processing payroll and managing HR workflows in Paycor or similar platforms
Strong expertise in benefits administration, including handling health plans and retirement plans
Solid organizational abilities with a keen eye for detail and accuracy
Proven capability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in dynamic environments
Proficiency in corporate tax, sales tax, and preparing corporate tax returns
In-depth understanding of journal entries, general ledger maintenance, accounts payable, and accounts receivable
