We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join a manufacturing organization in Jackson, Michigan in a contract capacity with the potential to become permanent. This role supports daily accounting operations while also assisting with select HR and administrative processes, making it a strong fit for someone who enjoys variety and can work with accuracy in a fast-moving environment. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and comfortable managing multiple priorities with limited supervision.
Job Responsibility
Prepare and issue customer invoices, record incoming payments, and track open balances to support timely collections
Process vendor bills, coordinate payment preparation, and verify that expenses are coded correctly and routed through proper approvals
Review employee expense submissions and reconcile company card activity to maintain accurate financial reporting
Assist with journal entries, general ledger upkeep, and month-end close activities, including account reconciliations and supporting documentation
Maintain orderly accounting records and ensure financial files are complete, accurate, and easy to retrieve for reporting purposes
Support HR administration by updating employee files, helping with onboarding and offboarding paperwork, and responding to employment verification requests
Assist with workers’ compensation documentation, follow-up activities, and periodic employee census reporting while safeguarding confidential information
Provide day-to-day administrative assistance to leadership and contribute to cross-functional operational tasks as business needs evolve
Requirements
2+ years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, HR support, or a related administrative role
High school diploma required
an associate degree in Accounting, Business, or a similar field is preferred
Working knowledge of core accounting practices, including journal entries, general ledger activity, and month-end close support
Familiarity with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and maintaining accurate financial records
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and other Microsoft Office applications
Strong organizational skills, close attention to detail, and the ability to manage confidential information responsibly
Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines
Nice to have
Experience with sales tax, corporate tax support, or corporate tax return processes is beneficial
