Job Description:

We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team in Biddeford, Maine. This Contract position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the financial operations of a respected university. The ideal candidate will bring strong accounting expertise and a commitment to accuracy while managing daily financial activities and records.

Job Responsibility:

  • Prepare and post journal entries to maintain accurate financial records for the university
  • Input financial data into the system, ensuring all transactions are recorded promptly and correctly
  • Process and reconcile miscellaneous checks, ensuring compliance with organizational policies
  • Manage and oversee daily transaction postings to the general ledger
  • Maintain and update financial records, ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure financial data aligns with operational needs
  • Conduct periodic reviews and audits of financial records to identify and resolve discrepancies
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Support the implementation of best practices in accounting processes and procedures

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in accounting or bookkeeping, with a strong understanding of journal entries and general ledger management
  • Proficiency in data input and financial transaction processing using accounting systems
  • Ability to handle manual checks and ensure accurate reconciliation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address discrepancies and maintain data integrity
  • Familiarity with financial reporting and compliance standards
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Effective communication and collaboration abilities to work with cross-functional teams
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience
