Job Description

We are seeking a Staff Accountant to support cost accounting and financial reporting for direct mail production and campaigns (large-scale printed fundraising and outreach campaigns). In this role, you’ll play a critical part in supporting the financial backbone of our direct mail operations, focusing on job costing, margin analysis, and cost control while partnering with operations and Client Services teams to ensure accurate reporting and informed decision-making.

Job Responsibility

  • Tracking and analyzing direct mail costs, including printing, postage, paper, fulfillment, vendor services
  • Maintaining accurate job costing and margin reporting by campaign and client
  • Assisting with documentation and internal controls related to direct mail cost accounting
  • Supporting month-end close activities, including preparation of inventory, work-in-progress (WIP), accrual, and cost of goods sold (COGS) entries
  • Preparing and posting cost-related journal entries and performing account reconciliations to ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Analyzing cost variances and supporting pricing, margin, and profitability analysis
  • Collaborating directly with operations and client services teams to improve cost visibility, data accuracy, and process efficiency across the direct mail billing and revenue process

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
  • 1–3 years of accounting experience, including exposure to cost accounting, operational accounting, or production-based environments
  • Experience supporting month-end close, including journal entries and reconciliations
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or job-costing system experience (Sage Intacct)
  • Strong attention to detail and a high standard for data accuracy
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of work, prioritize effectively, and follow tasks through to completion with minimal oversight
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with ability to explain financial information to non-Finance team members
