Job Description

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Truss Designer to lead complex roof and floor truss design projects while developing into a Design Manager role. This individual will serve as a technical expert, mentor junior designers, and contribute to operational leadership within the design department. This is a growth-oriented opportunity for someone who combines strong engineering/design expertise with leadership potential and a desire to drive team performance and process improvement

Job Responsibility

  • Design residential and/or commercial roof and floor truss systems using MiTek, Alpine, or similar design software
  • Interpret architectural drawings, structural plans, and specifications to develop accurate, code-compliant truss layouts
  • Perform engineering calculations to ensure structural integrity, load requirements, and cost efficiency
  • Review designs for manufacturability and installation feasibility
  • Collaborate with sales, engineering, and production teams to optimize solutions
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously with a focus on deadlines, accuracy, and customer satisfaction
  • Communicate directly with builders, engineers, and internal stakeholders to resolve design issues
  • Ensure all designs comply with applicable building codes and industry standards
  • Mentor and support junior designers through training, design review, and best practice sharing
  • Serve as a go-to technical resource for complex or escalated design challenges
  • Assist in developing standard work processes, design guidelines, and quality control procedures
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, and performance development of design team members
  • Support department planning, workload distribution, and resource management
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to design efficiency, accuracy, and turnaround time
  • Gradually assume leadership responsibilities with the goal of transitioning into a Design Manager role

Requirements

  • 5-10+ years of truss design experience (roof and/or floor systems)
  • Proficiency in truss design software (MiTek, Alpine, or equivalent)
  • Strong understanding of structural design principles, load calculations, and building codes
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently

Nice to have

  • Leadership or mentoring experience within a design team
  • Background in lumber, building materials, or component manufacturing
  • Exposure to manufacturing processes and truss production workflows
  • Engineering degree (Civil, Structural) or significant equivalent experience
