The Engineering Shift Lead for the IMA Filling Line is responsible for leading the shift engineering team to ensure uninterrupted production, reliable equipment performance, and timely technical support. This role focuses heavily on mechanical systems, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, continuous improvement, and compliance with safety and quality standards.
Job Responsibility:
Lead mechanical/Instrumentation troubleshooting of IMA filling line equipment (e.g., sensors, PLC, conveyors, dosing units, sealing systems, servo mechanisms)
Ensure minimum downtime by providing quick and effective diagnostic responses to mechanical failures
Guide team members on root cause analysis, FMEA and corrective actions
Oversee execution of shift-level preventive maintenance (PM) activities as per schedule
Ensure proper lubrication, alignment, precision adjustments, and mechanical integrity checks
Identify recurring issues and propose reliability improvements
Lead and supervise a team of Team members and operators during the shift
Coordinate with Manufacturing, quality, safety, and warehouse teams to ensure smooth operations
Conduct shift handover meetings with accurate reporting of issues, breakdowns, and follow-up actions
Drive improvements in line efficiency (OEE), waste reduction, and equipment performance
Support implementation of Lean, Kaizen, and TPM initiatives
Participate in equipment modification or upgrade activities
Ensure accurate logging of breakdowns, PM activities, spare consumption, and equipment status
Adhere to safety and GMP guidelines, ensuring compliance at all stages
Prepare shift reports and maintenance logs as required
Monitor critical mechanical spares and escalate requirements for replenishment
Ensure proper usage and control of tools and maintenance kits
Ensure all mechanical interventions follow safety protocols and lock-out/tag-out procedures
Support investigations for deviations, equipment-related NCRs, and quality incidents
Promote safety culture within the team
Requirements:
Diploma (or equivalent) with 10+ years of experience or associate’s degree with 8+ years of experience or BA/BS with 5+ years of experience or MBA/MS with any years of relevant experience
Strong expertise in equipment and project management
Demonstrated direct supervisory experience
Solid understanding of knowledge management
Proficiency in Good Manufacturing Practices (including cGMP), OSHA, FDA, and environmental regulations relevant to the pharmaceutical industry
Strong English speaking and writing abilities
Nice to have:
Strong technical skills and hands-on experience with communication protocols
Experience with LEAN manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies
Excellent problem-solving skills
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to mentor and develop team members
Experience using common AI tools, including generative technologies such as ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot, to support problem solving and enhance productivity.
