Job Description:

We're looking for a Senior Staff Engineer for our Consumer Pricing and Incentives team within Uber Delivery. This team is a cornerstone of Uber's Delivery business, directly influencing consumer behavior, shaping demand, and optimizing revenue for Uber’s online food delivery and grocery businesses. You’d be responsible for defining the technical roadmap for systems that execute hundreds of millions of pricing decisions daily—directly balancing our marketplace economics at a global scale. You’ll need to be comfortable with extreme complexity, and ready to own high-stakes trade-offs that impact our bottom line. If you thrive on moving fast with purpose and are ready to be a force multiplier for our engineering culture, come build with us.

Job Responsibility:

  • Champion Engineering Quality: You'll be a key driver of engineering quality, helping to establish best practices across the team and beyond. We expect you to lead by example, write excellent code, and advocate for strong engineering principles.
  • Architect at Scale: Lead the design and implementation of highly scalable, reliable, and performant systems that can handle our global footprint. You'll tackle some of our most complex technical challenges, ensuring our systems are not just functional but built to last.
  • Drive Product Vision: Partner with product managers, data scientists, and business leaders to translate business goals into a clear technical vision. Your passion for building impactful products will guide the team in making technical decisions that directly contribute to our business's success.
  • Lead and Mentor: Act as a force multiplier for the team, providing technical mentorship to senior engineers and helping to develop the next generation of technical leaders. You'll foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Influence Broadly: Effectively communicate complex technical concepts to a diverse audience, from fellow engineers to executive leadership. Your ability to build consensus and drive alignment will be critical in shaping the technical direction of the broader organization.

Requirements:

  • PhD or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related field AND 5+-years full-time Software Engineering work experience OR 8+-years full-time Software Engineering work experience
  • Programming language (e.g. C, C++, Java, Python, or Go)
  • Demonstrated examples of project leadership roles, delivering production-level features from inception, and promoting a high-quality culture amongst the team
  • Deep system design skills. You know how to build highly-scalable, robust, and fault-tolerant services that support our unique exponential growth requirements
  • Demonstrated experience easily speaking to the operational aspects of monitoring, alerting, and structuring code for production-level debugging and optimization

Nice to have:

  • Prior experience in the pricing domain
  • Knowledge of machine learning and/or optimization.
  • A background in product experimentation including the statistical knowledge, mechanics of experimentation and analysis so that you are able to interpret, debug and challenge experimental results when necessary
What we offer:
  • Eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program
  • May be offered an equity award & other types of comp
  • All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan
  • Eligible for various benefits
