The Senior Staff MFG IT Systems Engineer will be responsible for the ZT Systems manufacturing environment which includes virtualization utilizing VMware VCenter services and the various VMware features, as well as a proven advanced skill set and experience across various Microsoft and open-source technologies with a focus on Linux. They will manage the on-prem infrastructure support such as virtualization and storage and use of automation for day-to-day support and issue resolution.
Job Responsibility:
Architect, implement, and maintain highly available Linux/Windows server platforms across on‑prem and cloud (hybrid) environments
Manage and optimize hypervisors (e.g., VMware, Hyper‑V, KVM) and enterprise storage platforms (SAN/NAS/object) for performance, resilience, and cost
Design and operate HashiCorp Consul (service discovery/mesh), Nomad (workload orchestration), Vault (secrets management/PKI), and Boundary (secure access) in production
Standardize and scale configuration management with Ansible and infrastructure provisioning with Terraform (modules, workspaces, policy as code)
Build automation and tooling in Python (and Bash/PowerShell where appropriate) to reduce toil, integrate APIs, and improve observability
Create/Update/Implement scripts to be used in Linux, Windows, Ansible Playbooks with a focus on Python and YAML
Participate in projects and engineer new systems
Work with team to plan server migration and deployment projects
Monitor performance of critical servers and applications
Manage the load configuration and make recommendations for purchase or upgrade of hardware as well as the tuning of software
Engage and manage 3rd-party vendors to achieve expedient resolution
Create and maintain system documentation for specifications, designs, procedures, and logs
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree (Computer Science preferred) with 8+ years of system engineering experience in enterprise-level, highly integrated, complex IT environment (alternatively an MS degree with 6+ years of experience)
Working knowledge of Public Cloud-based solutions and APIs
8+ years of Linux experience
8+ years VMware/virtual server experience & working knowledge of vSphere console, vMotion, and VMware management
Knowledge of API and API development
4+ years of DevOps experience
Working proficiency of Python required
4+ years of Ansible experience
4+ years of enterprise storage platforms experience with NFS/SMB/CIFS and storage solutions including, but not limited to, QNAP, Pure, HPE, Netapp
Advanced knowledge of Active Directory architecture and support including: Group Policy, Replication, DNS, User and Group Management
Show an understanding of Information Security best practices
Ability to produce and adhere to documentation – Visio, run books, Project Plans, Root Cause Analysis
Strong documentation and communication skills applicable to a Customer Service role
