Job Description

This position is part of the Kingsport Packaging Mill Maintenance Team and plays a critical role in the overall reliability and performance of manufacturing and infrastructure equipment. The Reliability Engineer’s primary purpose is to lead the team of hourly and contract employees to maintain and improve the mill’s asset base. This will be done using predictive and preventative maintenance technology including but not limited to tools such as vibration analysis, infrared, ultrasonic, precision lubrication, and motion amplification (high speed camera).

Job Responsibility

  • Identify and implement process and equipment reliability improvement by working closely with operations and maintenance personnel
  • Maintaining Key reliability processes and workstreams in accordance with the One Domtar Standards
  • Utilize predictive and preventative maintenance program to identify and correct equipment issues
  • Identifies and implements improvements in process and equipment reliability across the Mill by working closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering personnel
  • Solve problems utilizing the mills RCPE program
  • Supports the mills goal for safety, environmental, and other areas of need
  • Supports maintenance team by assisting with resolving technical issues and repair procedures / troubleshooting

Requirements

  • Bachelor`s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • or degree in a maintenance and/or reliability related field
  • Minimum of three (3) years of hands-on experience with Mechanical/reliability maintenance
  • Analytical, critical thinking, and proven knowledge of reliability systems, methods, processes and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient planning, organization, and time-management skills

Nice to have

  • Working degree in computer literacy, including computer-based maintenance software (SAP) and Microsoft Office
  • Experience in RCM, FMEA and CMRP Certification
  • Knowledgeable in areas of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and reliability
  • Experience developing and managing predictive technology programs (including but not limited to vibration analysis, ultrasonic, motion amplification, and infrared routes)
  • Experience developing and managing preventative technology programs (including but not limited to precision lubrication and essential care routes)
  • Experience in development and implementation of reliability training programs
  • Rotating equipment troubleshooting aptitude

  • Act as System Owner for assigned equipment and systems, maintaining full technical accountability for performance, reliability, and validated state
  • Investigate unexpected system and equipment failures, performing root cause analysis and leading the development and execution of corrective and preventive actions
  • Define, own, and continuously optimize equipment reliability strategies, including maintenance strategy, risk mitigation, and lifecycle management
  • Develop, implement, and improve Preventive Maintenance (PM) strategies and job plans, optimizing maintenance frequencies based on data, failure modes, and reliability analysis
  • Lead efforts to optimize maintenance intervals through data driven optimization while ensuring equipment reliability, compliance, and validation integrity
  • Ensure availability and management of spare parts, including identification of critical spares, inventory monitoring (stock / non‑stock), and coordination with technical and maintenance teams
  • Maintain equipment in a validated state, ensuring data integrity, system compliance, and alignment with cGMP and regulatory expectations
  • Serve as technical owner for equipment improvement and upgrade projects, including reliability enhancements and performance optimization initiatives
