We have a current opportunity for Sr Principal Spacecraft Systems Engineer / Mission Architect – Littleton CO, Chantilly VA or Albuquerque NM to join our team. This role leverages your extensive mission and advanced systems design, manufacturing, and operations experience for end-to-end spacecraft systems and payloads. You’ll serve as senior technical leader for new mission and systems concepts, driving growth and guiding technology advancements to attract and win major new business.
Job Responsibility:
Serves as senior technical leader to the business to develop mission concepts for spacecraft and mission development
Leverage mission design tools to support end-to-end systems engineering, program plans, schedules, and costing
Provide thought leadership within Redwire, with our partners, and across the industry
Generates quantifiable requirements based on customer description, system planning and design, and acquisition logistics
Ensures requirements comply with client requirements and government standards through formal verification methods
Translates high level customer objectives, business cases, architectures, and spacecraft development strategies into system requirement specifications and work across engineering disciplines to develop lower-level detailed implementation requirements
Establishes and coordinates development of standards, practices, and procedures as related to the overall system development
Designs interfaces and brings system elements together, so they work as a whole, meeting customer requirements while being competitive
Efficiently develop cost and schedule competitive technical solutions – drawing on internal and partner expertise
Develop concepts in schedule, budget, and performance constrained environment
Assesses performance using evaluation criteria and technical performance measures
Use MBSE tools and techniques to rapidly develop detailed mission concepts to bid for new business
Customer liaison and support for business development activities and to understand and shape requirements
Participates in system conceptual design and documentation of the design concepts
Generates system level requirements verification procedures and customer acceptance test procedures
Reviews test plans/procedures and ensures they meet the objectives of the contractual requirements and participates in the testing process to validate requirements
Technical management of program elements
Plan and conduct of technical reviews and technical baseline
Write status and technical performance reviews and reports
Mentor, coach, train, guide, direct and advise junior staff
Must be able to recognize and mitigate technical issues and risks while operating within budget and on schedule
The candidate will work with cross-discipline team members and must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse community of engineers and managers to achieve the goals of the program team
Requirements:
B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or other space-related discipline
Minimum of 20 years’ experience in space industry, including developing, designing, manufacturing, testing, and operating spacecraft and space flight hardware
Demonstrated experience with Spacecraft development, deployment and operations
Must have a well-rounded System Level approach with demonstrated technical leadership
Must have experience using design tools, including Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
Extensive experience with space systems engineering including an understanding of space vehicle design, space system / ground system architecture development, and space missions and operations development
Extensive understanding of interdisciplinary systems engineering challenges, with a strong ability to see the big picture in complex projects
Demonstrated capability to quickly grasp new technology domains and apply them effectively to solve challenging problems
Deep appreciation for the history of space technology and missions, with a commitment to applying lessons learned to new initiatives
Recognized industry subject matter expert (SME) with a proven record of innovation and impact
Experience in the full product development lifecycle, including rapid design, analysis, fabrication, and testing, progressing concepts to flight-ready systems
Proven success in building and leading multidisciplinary teams to define and plan complex projects
Exceptional skill in analyzing requirements and data to quickly understand problems, define solution spaces, communicate actionable options, and recommend clear paths forward
Creator of innovative solutions to complex technical challenges, drawing on broad experience and insight across diverse subject areas
Proficient in managing competing requirements, balancing trade-offs, and optimizing solutions based on project-specific priorities
Ability to travel - an average of 20% travel may be required
Most of the travel is domestic but some international travel may be required
Must have US Citizenship
