Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Inventory Cost Accountant to support a manufacturing environment in Elmira, New York. This Contract position is ideal for a hands-on, detail-oriented accounting specialist who can strengthen cost visibility, maintain accurate inventory valuation, and provide reliable financial insight for operational decision-making. The role requires strong knowledge of standard costing, manufacturing cost analysis, and ERP-based reporting, along with the ability to work effectively in an on-site setting.

Job Responsibility

  • Oversee inventory and cost accounting activities to ensure accurate valuation, reporting, and month-end close support within a manufacturing operation
  • Analyze material, labor, and overhead costs to identify variances, explain performance trends, and recommend corrective actions
  • Maintain and review standard cost structures, including updates tied to product changes, pricing shifts, and production conditions
  • Partner with operations, finance, and plant leadership to improve cost controls and strengthen financial understanding across the business
  • Prepare recurring and ad hoc reports related to inventory balances, cost performance, margin trends, and manufacturing results
  • Reconcile inventory-related accounts and investigate discrepancies affecting financial statements or operational reporting
  • Support ERP-based cost accounting processes, including reporting accuracy and system data integrity within JD Edwards EnterpriseOne
  • Contribute to ongoing process improvements involving inventory controls, cost tracking, and financial workflows as business needs evolve

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in cost accounting, with a strong focus on inventory and manufacturing environments
  • Demonstrated expertise in manufacturing cost accounting, including standard costing and cost variance analysis
  • Strong understanding of inventory valuation, account reconciliations, and financial reporting processes
  • Hands-on experience using JD Edwards EnterpriseOne for accounting, costing, or operational finance activities
  • Ability to interpret detailed cost data and translate findings into practical recommendations for business partners
  • Strong analytical skills with a high level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with both finance and operational stakeholders in an on-site environment
