Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Grant Accountant to support grant-funded financial operations for a major public-sector program in Maryland. This contract-to-permanent opportunity is ideal for a finance specialist who can balance budgeting, compliance, reporting, and contract administration in a government-supported environment. The role focuses heavily on the financial stewardship of grant activity, with close attention to regulatory standards, subrecipient monitoring, and operational accuracy.

Job Responsibility

  • Oversee the financial management of federal and state grant activity, ensuring spending, documentation, and reporting align with applicable regulations
  • Apply grant compliance standards, including Uniform Guidance, to evaluate transactions and provide sound recommendations on allowable use of funds
  • Monitor budgets, track expenditures, and support cost-sharing or matching requirements tied to funded programs
  • Prepare financial materials and supporting documentation for formal approvals, including items presented to governing oversight bodies
  • Participate in board-related meetings and develop clear financial reports to support decision-making and accountability
  • Serve as a financial partner for purchasing processes by reviewing purchase requests, supporting purchase order activity, and helping resolve funding or fiscal-year discrepancies
  • Provide oversight and guidance to subrecipients and external partners, especially organizations that need additional support with financial administration
  • Coordinate periodic and time-sensitive funding activities, including advance planning for major program payment cycles

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in grant accounting, grant finance, or governmental fund administration
  • Demonstrated background supporting federal or state-funded programs with strong knowledge of compliance requirements
  • Experience interpreting Uniform Guidance and applying grant regulations to real-world financial decisions
  • Proficiency in journal entry preparation, account analysis, and financial reporting
  • Hands-on experience with Workday or a similar enterprise financial system
  • Familiarity with government grants, contract administration, and subrecipient oversight
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial expectations to internal stakeholders and external partners
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment while maintaining accuracy and accountability
