Job Description

As Sr Engineering Manager for the Eater Growth team, you will be responsible for shaping the vision to impact Uber Eats most important business metrics (acquisition, retention and growth). Your mission will be to ensure that consumers always feel understood, with the app effortlessly anticipating their needs—whether they’re looking for a quick lunch, planning a group dinner, or discovering new cuisines they didn’t even know they’d love.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead experimentation and learning to find high-potential product features and 0 to 1 big bets
  • Work with stakeholders and multi-functional teams to lead planning and execution through a full product cycle
  • Partner with engineering teams, help see opportunities, gather requirements, and help shape the technology roadmap and vision for the team
  • Lean on technical experience to facilitate technical decision making and raise the bar on the team’s engineering craft
  • Hire high-quality engineering talent, lead and develop your team
  • Develop an operational model to achieve operational excellence for engineering and product metrics

Requirements

  • 15+ years of software engineering experience
  • 7+ years as an engineering manager and people leader
  • Experience executing against high-stakes business goals and extensive engineering priorities
  • Experience partnering across functions and organizational boundaries to effectively advocate for team, business, and company priorities
  • Experience with analytical or optimization problem spaces and strong collaboration with data science and product functions
  • A strong ability to shepherd the design and implementation of robust, high-scale systems and to challenge engineers to develop extensible and reusable solutions

Nice to have

  • A strong business sense and ability to challenge and partner with product managers and business stakeholders
  • A track record of delivering results in fast-paced and highly ambiguous environments
  • Excellent communication and analytical ability to understand the business value of engineering decisions and articulate a narrative about their importance

  • Ensure that Digital Signage displays at stations are displaying accurate real-time information during disruption and manage playlists at all stations across the Southeastern network with relevant information for passengers
  • Implement the Southeastern social media strategy as directed by the Head of Information Delivery – this includes raising complaints on behalf of customers through the relevant Customer Relations Management system where necessary and escalating / investigating other relevant issues / requests
  • Ensure timely updates are made via Twitter (and any other Social Media channels as appropriate) ensuring that members of the team are responding to passengers in a timely, professional, empathetic and polite manner at all times
  • Ensure that all trains, particularly during disruption, are accounted for and information is being presented correctly via Darwin
  • In times of disruption where a new timetable is to be implemented, ensure that this is entered into Darwin in a timely fashion after first liaising with the NRCC to understand if the timetable is to be uploaded to the Integrated Train Planning System (ITPS) under the “Day A for B” arrangements
