This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the office four times per week or other frequency dictated by the business. The Role As Purchased Part Manufacturing Engineer (PPME), your primary responsibility is to support Supplier Quality (SQ) team in ensuring that externally sourced crankshafts meet quality and timing requirements across the program lifecycle. Work is performed in a team environment where you will have frequent interactions with the stakeholders such as Supplier Quality (SQ), Product Engineering (PE), and Manufacturing Engineers (MEs), as well as with the supplier manufacturing and quality teams, fostering collaboration and alignment across all key stakeholders. You will be based in GM Technical Center India, Bangalore and will have ample travel opportunities across various regions to support new program launches, process improvements and troubleshooting technical issues in GPS plants and at supplier locations. As Machining Engineer and you are responsible for supporting central ME team in ensuring that the total system (New or re-build) is defined, procured and installed with respect to responsible component such as Cylinder Head, Cylinder Block, Crankshaft, or any machined components. You will have to support GPS plants to troubleshoot problems related to quality and productivity as well. You will possess a broad technical knowledge combined with creative problem solving and analytical ability.
Job Responsibility:
Lead manufacturing process assessments as per GM’s BOP (casting/forging, Crankshaft machining and assembly processes.) during supplier development & manufacturing readiness check
Support SQ in risk identification and mitigation (PFMEA, Control Plans)
Support quality concern & open issues resolution (dimensional issues, cracks, surface finish, hardness, fatigue) at supplier
Support supplier product development GxDP / APQP milestones (e.g., sourcing, tooling kickoff, pilot builds). during execution, for fixture, tooling & process, fixture etc., measurement issues
Participate in PDT meetings & ensure alignment between SQ, GPS ME & Product Engineering requirements with supplier
Support process changes (tooling, line balancing, capacity expansion)
Support launch and post-SOP stability
Support continuous improvement in scrap, rework, and throughput
As machining engineer, preparation of Estimations, SOR (Statement of Requirements) / RFQ (Request for quotation) for M&E (Machinery & Equipment)
Follow ME standard processes (PoME), align requirements according to BOP (Bill Of Process) / BOE (Bill Of Equipment). Raise deviations and get approval based on requirement
Participate in technical discussion with M&E Manufactures and support for Procurement process
CNC Fixture concept & final design validation
Participate Safety Risk Assessment for new & rebuild M&E
Participate in MARO (Machine Run-Off) activity at OEM and GM sites
Provide plant support on quality & productivity issues, on need basis
Optimization of processes such as CNC program & tooling for capability, cycle time & cost improvement
Follow Safety guidelines and standardized work during execution activities
Capture and share lessons learned within the team and with program manager
Participate in global meetings and report out regional issues, lessons learned and project progress updates when required.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical / Production / Industrial / Automobile Engineering
5+ years of Experience in Automobile / Mechanical allied Engineering Industry
Good knowledge of Automotive Vehicle / Propulsions System processes and product launch
Good working knowledge of Teamcenter, NX, Vis-mockup, AutoCAD, MS Project and MS Office applications
Sound understanding of GPDP, Quality Chain & PFMEA
Sound knowledge of Project Management methodologies (Waterfall, Agile)
Sound knowledge of GM-GMS Principles and Workplace safety systems
Good knowledge of process parameters (speeds & feeds), cutting tools / fluids and applications
Good knowledge of crankshaft and other major engine components manufacturing processes
Good knowledge of crankshaft critical processes such as Deep rolling, heat treatment, Laser hardening, Nitriding, Grinding, Polishing, Balancing and final inspection, Cleanliness, Preservation & packaging etc.
Good knowledge of GD&T & crankshaft measurement systems & equipment
Knowledge in CNC Programming which includes NX CAD / CAM
Part Print, specifications reading and understanding
Good verbal and written communication

Basic Quality tools
