Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Endowment Accountant to support endowment and grant-related accounting activities for a Long-term Contract position based in Hartford, Connecticut. This role focuses on maintaining accurate fund records, monitoring donor-restricted activity, and ensuring investment-related transactions are properly tracked and reflected in the financials. The ideal candidate brings strong reconciliation skills, sound judgment in resolving variances, and a solid understanding of controls within endowment and grant accounting.

Job Responsibility

  • Monitor donor-restricted contributions and gifts to ensure fund historical and current activity is recorded accurately and aligned with reporting requirements
  • Review investment transactions and income activity, confirming balances are properly reflected in the general ledger and related fund records
  • Reconcile endowment funds and supporting accounts
  • Investigate accounting discrepancies by researching source documentation, analyzing account activity, and coordinating with relevant stakeholders to resolve issues
  • Strengthen and maintain internal controls related to contributions, investment income, and fund accounting processes
  • Support the accuracy and integrity of donor and fund data by working across financial records and donor database information
  • Assist with financial reporting and documentation for endowment and grant activity, ensuring records are organized and audit-ready

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in grant accounting, endowment accounting, or fund accounting within a complex financial environment
  • Strong working knowledge of general ledger activity, journal entry preparation, and account reconciliation
  • Experience reviewing investment accounts, investment income, and related accounting transactions
  • Familiarity with donor-restricted funds, endowment funds, and donor database-supported accounting processes
  • Understanding of internal control practices related to contributions, investments, and financial reporting
