Job Responsibility:

  • Develops and maintains a hierarchical or relational database that contains data elements necessary to meet the informational needs of the University
  • Develops and implements standards, including naming conventions for files, records and data elements, for the creation and maintenance of databases and other file structures
  • Directs and controls all database management activities, as well as flat file structures, including responsibility for security and efficient operation
  • Maintains responsibility for the definition, organization, and documentation of all databases and flat file structures
  • Maintains and evaluates database structures through the use of a data dictionary
  • Establishes and monitors standards and procedures to ensure integration of systems through database design
  • Establishes naming conventions that reduce redundancy and promotes standardization in programming references to the database
  • Oversees documentation of all structures and database files
  • Ensures updates are made as needed
  • Assumes responsibility for controlling and reducing redundancy of data elements in all files
  • Authors new databases and files required by application development
  • Consults with and advises users of the various databases and files
  • Prepares activity and progress reports concerning the data base management function for review by departmental senior leadership
  • Defines, installs and maintains adequate database backup and recovery procedures
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 4 years of related experience with major hierarchical data base or major rational data base packages, communication and distributed systems required
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
