We are looking for an experienced Sr. Cost Accountant to support a machinery manufacturing organization in Saint Louis, Missouri. This Long-term Contract opportunity is suited for a senior-level accounting specialist who can take ownership of core cost accounting activities, strengthen financial reporting accuracy, and work closely with operational partners in a fast-moving manufacturing setting. The person in this role will help maintain reliable product costing, support inventory accounting in a high-volume environment, and provide practical recommendations that improve cost visibility and control.
Job Responsibility
Lead monthly close activities related to cost accounting and help ensure timely, accurate financial results
Partner with engineering and operations teams to review product structures, confirm routing details, and keep cost inputs current
Maintain and validate standard costs for manufactured items, identifying inconsistencies and resolving cost data issues
Analyze costing methods and recommend improvements that enhance accuracy, reporting quality, and decision support
Support inventory accounting processes across a complex manufacturing operation with a large number of active SKUs
Review cost trends, variances, and product-related financial data to highlight risks and opportunities for improvement
Use Oracle inventory and cost information to monitor transactions, research discrepancies, and support accounting integrity
Step into the role quickly, assess existing workflows, and provide dependable coverage during a period of transition
Requirements
Strong experience in senior-level accounting roles with direct responsibility for monthly financial close
Demonstrated background in cost accounting within a manufacturing environment
Hands-on knowledge of standard costing principles, cost analysis, and product cost maintenance
Experience supporting inventory accounting in operations with high item volume and complexity
Working knowledge of Oracle, including inventory-related functionality
Oracle 12c experience is preferred
Ability to collaborate effectively with finance, engineering, and operational stakeholders
Proven ability to work independently, prioritize urgent needs, and deliver results with minimal supervision
