We are looking for an experienced Sr. Cost Accountant to join our team on a contract basis in Madison, Wisconsin. This role requires someone who is detail oriented, has a strong background in project accounting, and possesses a keen analytical mindset. You will play a critical part in overseeing financial operations, ensuring compliance, and driving process improvements while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Job Responsibility:
Manage project accounting tasks, including setting up and closing projects, ensuring accurate revenue recognition, and resolving complex billing issues
Perform month-end closing activities such as calculating project revenue, preparing accruals, and reconciling general ledger accounts in compliance with US standards
Oversee and support financial audits, including customer-based and internal evaluations
Implement and maintain forecasting processes for invoicing, cash flow, and working capital
Identify barriers to cash flow performance and provide feedback on commercial terms to optimize project outcomes
Collaborate with project management, engineering, and other teams to ensure seamless financial operations
Maintain and enforce financial policies, controls, and procedures to ensure compliance
Support credit and collections efforts to ensure timely receipt of payments and resolve invoicing disputes
Drive continuous improvement initiatives and establish best practices for project accounting processes
Prioritize workload and maintain billing system data to ensure accuracy and efficiency
Requirements:
Proven experience in cost accounting and cost analysis
Strong expertise in project accounting, including setup, reporting, and invoicing
Advanced proficiency in Excel, including formulas and data analysis
Familiarity with month-end closing procedures and general ledger reconciliation
Ability to manage complex billing issues and resolve disputes effectively
Knowledge of financial policies, controls, and compliance standards
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Effective communication and collaboration abilities across various teams
