Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Cost Accountant to join our team on a contract basis in Madison, Wisconsin. This role requires someone who is detail oriented, has a strong background in project accounting, and possesses a keen analytical mindset. You will play a critical part in overseeing financial operations, ensuring compliance, and driving process improvements while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Job Responsibility:

  • Manage project accounting tasks, including setting up and closing projects, ensuring accurate revenue recognition, and resolving complex billing issues
  • Perform month-end closing activities such as calculating project revenue, preparing accruals, and reconciling general ledger accounts in compliance with US standards
  • Oversee and support financial audits, including customer-based and internal evaluations
  • Implement and maintain forecasting processes for invoicing, cash flow, and working capital
  • Identify barriers to cash flow performance and provide feedback on commercial terms to optimize project outcomes
  • Collaborate with project management, engineering, and other teams to ensure seamless financial operations
  • Maintain and enforce financial policies, controls, and procedures to ensure compliance
  • Support credit and collections efforts to ensure timely receipt of payments and resolve invoicing disputes
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and establish best practices for project accounting processes
  • Prioritize workload and maintain billing system data to ensure accuracy and efficiency

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in cost accounting and cost analysis
  • Strong expertise in project accounting, including setup, reporting, and invoicing
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, including formulas and data analysis
  • Familiarity with month-end closing procedures and general ledger reconciliation
  • Ability to manage complex billing issues and resolve disputes effectively
  • Knowledge of financial policies, controls, and compliance standards
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication and collaboration abilities across various teams
