Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Cost Accountant to support a short-term project in Ann Arbor, Michigan within a manufacturing environment. This role will focus on strengthening inventory-related financial accuracy, reviewing cost flows, and resolving account discrepancies tied to complex reconciliation activity. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, operates independently, and can quickly take ownership of a defined project expected to last approximately 2-3 months.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead detailed reconciliations across inventory and related balance sheet accounts to identify and resolve variances
  • Review inventory capitalization methods and confirm that costs are recorded appropriately within financial records
  • Analyze standard costing structures and evaluate cost accuracy across manufacturing transactions
  • Examine in-transit inventory activity to ensure timing and valuation are reflected correctly
  • Trace inventory cost movement between operational records and the general ledger to improve financial alignment
  • Investigate historical discrepancies created across multiple data sources and recommend corrective adjustments where needed
  • Support cleanup efforts tied to complex accounting issues, including matters connected to prior NetSuite-related reconciliation challenges
  • Work independently to drive the assignment forward, establish priorities, and deliver progress with minimal supervision

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in cost accounting, including significant exposure to manufacturing environments
  • Strong expertise in inventory accounting, inventory processes, and inventory capitalization principles
  • Hands-on experience with standard cost accounting and detailed cost analysis
  • Proven ability to perform complex reconciliations and balance sheet review work
  • Solid understanding of how inventory costs are captured and reflected in the general ledger
  • Ability to manage a project independently and make progress in a fast-paced contract engagement
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and a disciplined approach to resolving accounting discrepancies
