We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to support key accounting operations for a contract assignment in South Paris, Maine. This position will play an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, managing close activities, and ensuring balance sheet integrity through detailed reconciliations and reporting. The ideal candidate brings strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, cost analysis, and month-end procedures, along with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Job Responsibility:
Lead month-end close activities by preparing schedules, reviewing account activity, and helping ensure timely completion of reporting deadlines
Prepare and post journal entries with a high level of accuracy while supporting the integrity of the general ledger
Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies to maintain complete and reliable financial data
Perform bank reconciliations regularly and resolve outstanding items in coordination with internal stakeholders
Analyze construction-related costs and apply cost accounting principles to support accurate financial tracking and reporting
Review financial transactions for proper classification and consistency with accounting standards and company policies
Assist with reporting requests, account analysis, and documentation needed to support audits or management review
Identify process gaps within daily accounting activities and recommend practical improvements to strengthen controls and efficiency
Requirements:
At least 5 years of accounting experience, including senior-level responsibility for close and reconciliation work
Strong hands-on background in month-end close, general ledger management, and journal entry preparation
Proven experience completing account reconciliations and bank reconciliations with strong attention to detail
Knowledge of construction cost tracking and cost accounting principles
Ability to analyze financial information, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues in a timely manner
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities within a contract assignment
Proficiency with accounting systems and spreadsheet tools used for reporting, analysis, and reconciliation
