Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to support a non-profit organization’s accounting operations in Honolulu, Hawaii. This role is focused on maintaining accurate financial records, strengthening reporting quality, and contributing to a smooth month-end close process. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical skills, sound accounting judgment, and the ability to work across multiple priorities while improving financial processes and documentation. Due to the nature of the work and onsite requirements, preference will be given to Hawaii residents. Applicants should be able to reliably commute or reside within the region to meet business needs.

Job Responsibility

  • Oversee account reconciliations and detailed balance sheet reviews to help ensure financial information is complete and accurate
  • Support monthly closing activities by preparing analyses, reviewing transactions, and assisting with timely completion of reporting deadlines
  • Investigate variances and accounting inconsistencies, then resolve issues through careful research and coordination with internal stakeholders
  • Verify the accuracy of financial data from accounting records and system-generated reports before it is used for reporting purposes
  • Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for audits, tax-related filings, grant reporting, and other financial reporting needs
  • Maintain clear accounting procedures and update documentation to promote consistency, compliance, and operational efficiency
  • Recommend and carry out process enhancements that improve accuracy, reduce manual work, and strengthen accounting workflows
  • Provide cross-functional accounting support during high-volume periods and assist with special projects as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
  • Experience in accounting, financial analysis, auditing, or a closely related area
  • Working knowledge of month-end close, general ledger activity, journal entries, and account reconciliations
  • Experience preparing bank reconciliations and reviewing financial data for accuracy and completeness
  • Familiarity with fund accounting within a non-profit environment is preferred
  • Experience using Abila MIP or similar accounting software is highly valued
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail
