About the Role: Peabody is seeking a Senior Accountant to join the Financial and Operations Accounting team within the Peabody Australia group. This role has become available due to an internal promotion and represents an excellent opportunity to step into a technically focused accounting position within a complex mining business. Reporting to the Manager Financial and Operations Accounting, you will support the delivery of accurate and timely financial results across Peabody’s mining and physical trading operations. The role has a strong emphasis on technical accounting, lease accounting, and financial reporting, with exposure to both IFRS and US GAAP. This position has no direct reports and is well suited to a hands‑on financial accountant who enjoys working through complex accounting matters and providing technical advice.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead the application of lease accounting standards under IFRS and US GAAP, including contract reviews, journals, reconciliations, and system maintenance
  • Investigate complex accounting issues, provide technical accounting advice, and prepare accounting memos and position papers
  • Support month‑end, quarter‑end and year‑end accounting, including journals, balance sheet reconciliations, fixed assets, inventory, royalties, and mining‑specific accounting matters

Requirements

  • CA or CPA qualification with 5+ years’ experience in chartered accounting or industry
  • Strong understanding of IFRS and US GAAP, including differences between standards
  • Experience preparing technical accounting advice, memos, and audit support documentation

Nice to have

Mining or resources experience is highly regarded but not essential
