We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to join a growing energy organization in Newport Beach, California on a Long-term Contract basis. This role is fully onsite and will support core general ledger activities, monthly and quarterly close processes, and complex accrual accounting in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate is confident working independently, can navigate established workpapers and procedures with minimal direction, and communicates clearly around deadlines and close progress.
Job Responsibility:
Prepare and post journal entries that support accurate monthly and quarterly financial reporting
Perform account reconciliations across balance sheet and related general ledger accounts, resolving discrepancies in a timely manner
Manage significant recurring accruals, including complex cost-related entries tied to liquefied natural gas operations
Review and record additional purchases, prepaid balances, and other accrual activity to ensure proper period recognition
Contribute to an eight-day close cycle by organizing deliverables, maintaining accuracy, and meeting reporting timelines
Use prior-period workpapers and existing accounting procedures to complete assignments efficiently with limited oversight
Partner with the Accounting Manager and Controller to address questions, escalate issues, and support close-related decision-making
Support quarter-end activities, which may occasionally require limited overtime or weekend availability to meet deadlines
Requirements:
5+ years of accounting experience, including strong exposure to month-end close and general ledger activities
Proven ability to prepare journal entries and complete detailed account reconciliations with a high degree of accuracy
Experience handling accruals, prepaids, and other balance sheet accounting in a mid-size to large company environment
Background working for a publicly traded or similarly complex organization is strongly preferred
Ability to work independently, interpret existing documentation, and move assignments forward without constant direction
Comfortable operating in a fast-paced close schedule and proactively communicating when timelines may be at risk
Hands-on experience with D365, FloQast, or comparable accounting systems is preferred
Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with reliability in a fully onsite setting
