We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to support core accounting operations for a media organization in Chester, New York. This position plays an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, coordinating month-end activities, and contributing to reporting, compliance, and audit readiness. The ideal candidate brings strong general ledger experience, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple accounting priorities effectively.
Job Responsibility:
Lead key components of the monthly close process by preparing journal entries, reviewing financial activity, and ensuring deadlines are met
Reconcile bank accounts regularly, investigate variances, and follow through on corrective actions to maintain accurate balances
Manage fixed asset accounting by tracking depreciation and amortization schedules and recording the related entries
Post recurring and adjusting entries for accruals and prepaid expenses to support accurate period-end reporting
Maintain organized accounting schedules and supporting documentation for balance sheet and income statement accounts
Provide backup assistance for accounts receivable activities to help ensure continuity across the accounting function
Prepare routine sales tax filings for New York and New Jersey in compliance with applicable reporting requirements
Contribute to budget review efforts by compiling data, analyzing trends, and assisting with management reporting
Support external and internal audit activities by gathering records, preparing schedules, and responding to information requests
Requirements:
3+ years of experience in a hands-on accounting role with exposure to general ledger and month-end close responsibilities
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline is preferred
Demonstrated experience with journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, prepaid expenses, and bank reconciliations
Working knowledge of fixed asset accounting, including depreciation and amortization tracking
Ability to assist with audit support and budget-related analysis in a deadline-driven environment
Strong organizational skills and close attention to detail when managing multiple priorities
Advanced proficiency with Excel for analysis, reconciliation, and reporting tasks
Nice to have:
Experience with NetSuite is an advantage
